Crashing and Burning ( and then Finally Knitting)

Well, my plans for this year just went all over the place.

I was not expecting to crash and burn throughout my spring semester. I have clearly neglected myself for the past few months. But do not worry everything is alright. I finished my spring semester strongly and without destroying my GPA.

With that last few months of school, I really did not have time to knit or do anything for myself except for struggling to submit everything that I need to submit for class. That was pretty much what happened in the past few months.

Now that It is summer I have had time to finish certain projects I have had in the back burner for the longest time

Today I ended up hanging out with @knitinthepit and they took a photo of me showing off my new unblocked shawl that I finished this week! #speckleandpop #westknitsbestknits #menwhoknit #knitting

Speckle and Pop

By Stephen West

Here is a short review about the Speckle and Pop by Stephen West. This shawl took me forever to finish it, and I might even say that this is one of my favorites from Stephen West designs. The yarns used is by

Pros:

The pattern Is beautiful and The small size is not small at all. Currently it is one of my favorite West Knits that I finished very recently. The techniques that were used were not hard at all. The pattern also gives an Instructions on doing it with the brioche or a garter, which I think is pretty great option if you are the type of knitter who avoids brioche.

Cons:

This is not a long mindless knit. The beauty of a lot of Stephen West patters is a lot of the things you do feel very meditative. This shawl is not like any of those (Dotted rays, Vertices Unite and even Color Craving). This is one of the shawls where it was busy to get to a certain part. It is Just a lot of yarn over turns, and color switching. I would have been fine with it and probably would have enjoy the project If I wasn’t busy with school and, other things.

Summary: The shawls looks amazing, and fun. However this project is more of a challenge than a social Knitting project.

Something new.

So I am currently working on something that I am designing. In the future I am going to need some help with test knitting.

Nothing but a pair of socks.

This semester is really interesting so far. It is quite interesting how much I currently have on my plate. My spring break is next week, and I surely need that break as soon as possible… I am actually a day away before spring break. but I have worked at the weekend so it doesn’t really matter. I just need to make sure that I am able to finish what I need to finish and give myself a little break. We are already 3 months in, and a pair of socks is the only thing that I have finished.

(posting this during my spring break so I am planning to post another post this week)

An Unexpected Hiatus

5/52- 9/52

I have been so busy and my weeks consist of a sewing class early at 8:30 am. Luckily I live on campus because I would not be able to drive here from where my parents live. Since a lot of the class I have are very early, and I have some classes the end late. Then after my sewing class, I have to go to my Italian class that meets twice a week. I tried French last spring, and that was just tragic. Mi piace parlare italiano. On Tuesday’s I have my fashion History and I actually enjoy the class due to the fact that it is a class that I can digest. History is one of my favorite subjects. Then after my history class, I have a Studio Art class and on what we are working on Adobe Premier. My Wednesday class consist of a Macroeconomics class and currently, that is one of my only class that I am actually able to knit in that class. Then Thursdays I have an art Lecture about looking. It is actually a very interesting class. Then after that, I have the second part of my Italian Class.

So what is currently on my needles are 3 pairs of socks, bees I need something that is small and mindless at the movement and I am making sure I want to get back in the blogging again soon.

I am so sorry for my absence. I am drowning with a lot of work at the moment. Something interesting is I actually going to be starting a session with a few knitting friends online for a Dungeons and Dragons campaign.

Gone Vogueing

4 / 52

So this weekend I eded up seeing some of you in Vogue Knitting Live. One of my favorite things that I look forward to is attending it. It is when I see a lot of the people who I have meet online because of a similar interest, an interest that interlock us all together. Yes! that was corny, and I am aware.

This VKL is one of best that I have been to because people that I do not know have come up to me telling me that they follow me, and I am pretty much a yarn celebrity. I absolutely find that baffling. I was not really expecting to be a somebody, but I notice I am slowly building a momentum of constant followers this year.

Again this years Vogue Yarn Haul was pretty small. I was able to spend under $200 which was pretty surprising, Especially since I was thinking that I am going to go over my budget.

"Opportunity is Not a Lengthy Visitor"

3/52

Wow, guys! For the past few weeks, I have not been getting a break. So a current update on what has been going on with my life. The quote that I have is a quote that I have heard in the musical Into the Woods. As soon as I heard it I knew It was already a sign. It was a sign that something was up.

So the events that happened was I missed an opportunity on being able to get a paid internship for the summer, and it really blows. I should have looked at the signs that were presented to me. But as my friend said it is a lesson to be learned.

A project that I ended up picked up again are socks that I am planning to wear around my apartment. The issues that I ended up facing with the ball that I have was the yarn twist so much and it gets keep tangling on itself, and I finally figured out how to properly do it with a help of a small basket.

Besides this, I am still working on a shawl and I hope I have enough yarn to the desired length that I want for the project. It doesn’t have to be super long but I still need it to be a good enough length the be able to be wrapped around the neck several times.

Time to Grow Up Buttercup

2/52

I apologize that my post was late. I just had to take some personal days for myself especially since I have to try to figure things out. In the past week, I ended up taking Truvada. If you don't know what Truvada is here we go. Truvada is a supplement you can take every day, and it take to lower the risk of contracting HIV. Besides knitting one of the things where I am passionate at is volunteering at LGBT centers that talks about safe sex. This past week personal growth is learning how to grow up. I absolutely think that I was mature of me to go to the doctor to get me started on Truvada.

I love my parents however a part of me still feels like I am treated like a child. Since I am an only son it makes sense why my parents would still want to hold tighter. Our relationship is not tragic or bad, we love each other. But we have to move on to the part where I become independent for which I am. The longer that I leave on my own here in college. I am thinking more about my future, and I want to make sure that I stick my landing.

This week in the world of Knitting I was not able to knit a lot. However I have something that I am working on, and I am almost in the midpoint of this project. I am excited to show you guys in the future.

Also this week someone was getting rid of their stash and they were able to give me a box of yarn. I am so thankful and so excited for that donation to feed more of my yarn addiction.

Don't Wait to Feel it.

1/52

Today during the end of the first week I learned an important lesson. Usually in the beginning of the year people try to make yearly resolution, but what about a lesson. A rule that I am going to I learn for myself this year is the lesson of:

“Don’t wait to feel it.”

The problem that I faced last year is not doing enough things. I would end up pump myself up to do something, and then I don’t deliver. I always block myself of doing certain things. I just really need to learn how to slay the beast and not worry about if I achieve at something or fail.

Knitting has been something that I do for comfort, now it is time to step up the game, and broaden my reach to do something else with it.

I finally had the time to post the video of my fall yarn haul. It took a lot to edit the video, and the video shows what yarn I have collected. The video features yarn from Events like New Jersey Sheep and Fiber Festival and New York Sheep and Fiber, and a couple trunk shows.

Besides working on the video this week I actually was busy with work, and I also ended up doing a photoshoot with my good friend Corrado (check out his Ravelry). We had a blast as we worked on the shoots. He is a pretty great designer, and you should check him out.

The images that are posted of Corrado and his projects are things that are past shoots we have done.. The shoot that was currently photograph are not yet ready to share. They will be released in a couple of weeks.

The projects that is currently on my needles is a shawl for my friend that is the image below.

the knit owl 1-8-19-1.jpg

This current project is the La Crau shawl by Melanie Berg. The yarn that is being used are 2 skeins of Marianated Yarns and a skein of Madelinetosh.

I want to welcome this new year, and the adventures that it will take us. I also want to tell people who get pressured with the new year about their New Years resolutions not to worry. Just do it!
